Personal Statement
I began playing golf at age 3 and from that first day my father took me out on the course I was hooked. I began competing at age 9 on the following tours; Golf Association of the Lehigh Valley (GALV), US Kids Golf, IMG, AJGA, and began playing for my high school team freshman year, consistently being the low score player (#1 seed) since. My approach to the game has been and continues to be setting handicap and consistent scoring goals each year. I have worked hard to meet these goals every year.
In addition to this strategy I have done as much as possible to help other players on my team to excel. I work with those that are looking for help and try to encourage them through positive thinking, practice and drills to help each of them improve. Working with others on the team and watching each of them improve has been one of the most satisfying aspects of my golf career.
I apply this same approach to my studies, setting goals as an A student, which I have met each year. Although I am extremely passionate about competing, I clearly understand the Importance of my academic goals and choosing a major that reflects my strengths which will ultimately culminate into a very rewarding career.
I believe if any college were to request references or reach out to any of those I have worked with including, coaches, swing trainers, teachers and those that know me in my community, you will find that I am caring person, strong competitor and someone that is willing to do anything to help others and that I have strong family values.
I have heard many say that I should show my interest in my academics first and playing for a college team second, when approaching my college choices and speaking with coaches. I believe they are equally important, as I know that golf has and will continue to be a major part of my life and continue to strengthen my character.
I have learned many things over the years through coaching and competing, including how important it is to be mentally strong in order to succeed. I have come a long way in that area and I still have more to do.
In summary, I offer to college coaches and teammates my strong work ethic, strength as a player and team member and my desire to do everything possible to improve. At the end of my college years I would like to see that I have contributed to the teams success while earning a degree in corporate finance.
There is much more I can say that would reflect my desire to compete at the college level, but I believe what has been said above pretty much sums up whats my goals are, what would make me a good candidate for a college team and what is different about me that may separate me from other candidates.
