Personal Statement

My name is Weston Goodman and I’m a California Native. I was born in Los Angeles, but moved to San Jose about 2 months ago to accommodate my dad’s job in Silicon Valley.  I play defense for the San Jose Jr. Sharks 18AAA in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League and wear # 73. I'm aiming to play Division 1 Ice Hockey and am committed to doing whatever it takes to get there.  It's what I love to do; I want to play as long and at the highest level possible.

  • My coach, Pavel Sisak, helped me develop my skating abilities through hundreds of hours of on-ice training. I'd get out of school, drive to the rink, and get there at about 4 pm every day. I'd stick handle for a little bit, then get on the ice at 5. From 5 to 6 i'd have my lesson, which would focus on defensive skills and skating. Then from 6:15 to 7:15 I'd have a pre-practice-warm-up that involved agility training and plyometrics. At 7:30 I'd hop on the ice for my team practice which would go until 9:00. Then from 9:15 to 10:30 me and my team would head upstairs to weight lift. I did this about five times a week for two years. After some time, it really began to show. I credit much of my development to those three years of intense training. Now that I moved from Oxnard to San Jose (to play for the Jr. Sharks) I train on my own. I hit the gym about four times a week and hit the ice about 5. I'm still very committed to my development and do my best to remedy my deficiencies with more and more practice.
