On whole, I have been blessed with a good life. I have loving and attentive parents. Although they divorced when I was ten, they have always placed me and my sister before any differences between them. Without exception, I have been able to look into the stands or over at the sideline and see my parents sitting together cheering for me.
My biggest challenge has been learning to manage my time and prioritize school. In 8th grade I applied to a program called AVID. Although it is primarily aimed at helping kids whose parents did not attend college, it helps develop organizational and study skills. I have remained in the program since and have shown amazing improvement in school. My academic performance this year shows how beneficial AVID has been to me. It helped me make some tough decisions coming into my sophomore year which included focusing solely on lacrosse. In my freshman year, I played three sports – football, wrestling and lacrosse. The transition to high school coupled with such demanding extracurricular commitments resulted in my less then admirable academic performance (2.5 G.P.A). With a successful sophomore year behind me (3.2 G.P.A), and a plan to retake two class semesters from my freshman year in the fall quarter, I will bring my cumulative G.P.A. to 3.0+.
Lacrosse has played a major role in my life. I have traveled with friends, learned important lessons, and experienced the great feeling of winning as well as the pain of defeat. It was through lacrosse that I learned to start where I am. It is not always easy to admit I am not yet the player, student or person I would like to become. Just this year I spent many hours with coaches and on my own to radically improve my shooting and passing. Rededicating myself to fundamentals was difficult when so many of my peers were focused on razzle dazzle moves. It has paid off in higher consistency, precision and the best shooting percentage on my varsity team.
I am a player and person that has the support and desire to continue to improve in all areas of my life. I strive each day to grow as a player, student and person. I want to attend a college and play for a program that understands and supports my full development on and off the field.
