Personal Statement
I am the team workhorse, I am not the fancy shooter, even though I have a deadly shot with my left OR right if you happen to let me near the cage, but my strength on the lacrosse field has always been to be the defensive midfielder who will die to create the turnover in order to gain possession of that ball. Once the possession is attained, I have the uncanny ability to look for the open man in order to get my team a score. I have been blessed with coaches who recognized my strength as a defensive midfielder and have spent time with me, despite knowing my struggles with a learning disability, so I could learn both the offensive and defensive plays and I could create the muscle memory I need in order to think quick on the field. My learning disability has shaped who I am, as it has never been an obstacle in my way, just a way to see things differently and even though I have had to work much harder because of it, it has been a blessing in disguise. Because of it, I know my character strength and when the going gets tough, that is when I shine the brightest. I am also physically much stronger than I appear and I am not afraid to go up against the biggest defender on the team if that is what it takes. I recognize that I'm not always the flashy one putting the ball in the back of the net but I am who gets the ground ball or forces the turn over in order to gain possession of the ball. If we don't have possession, we can't score and that is why my job is so important. That is why I love my job on the field. It fits my personality of being a hard worker on and off the field, giving it my all every single play, and being a team player doing what it takes to achieve a team win versus a personal one. My academic career, mirrors than of my career on the lacrosse field. My hard work and unwillingness to give up has gained me an invitation into the beta club, and wonderful grades in several honors courses my freshman year in High school. Last year, when a few players unexpectedly quit, out team found ourselves lacking defenders and I was asked to use a long pole for the first time in my lacrosse career. I loved it and even won an all conference honorable mention! This summer, the Road Warriors team lacked players and I was forced to play close defense for the first time. When our team dissolved after our only tourney, I was invited to guest play with Echelon Rise 2017 team as a defender. Again, I had a blast and just hustled out on the fields, so much, our high school coach took note and asked whether I would play defense for my team this upcoming year. I will do whatever my team needs in order to get us where we need to be. I look to fit into a college team that will let me do just that.
