Personal Statement

I am an Italian-American born in New York City, and the first generation of my family to be born outside Italy. I am a junior at The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT, where I have started for the varsity soccer team since my freshman year. I’ve been playing soccer my entire life, and it has always been my passion.

My goal in college is to continue my soccer career and play at a more competitive level. I play center attacking midfielder primarily, but I can play anywhere in the center midfield and play in the left midfield as well. My teachers and coaches all report that I am a hard worker, team player, respectful, and arrive to class or on the field every day engaged and focused. I respond well to assessments and suggestions for improvement, quickly recognizing the areas where I need to improve in practice, games, or classes. My current grade point average at a very competitive school is an A-.

Outside of school, I work part-time at an established soccer company that makes unique protective wear for soccer players. I started with the company as an intern and after some time was promoted to a paid part-time job. I’m very lucky to be using my love for soccer in opportunities beyond school. The thing I most enjoy about soccer is the relationships and memories the sport has given me. The cooperation and camaraderie that I get from being part of my soccer team is something extremely special that I recognize not everyone is fortunate to experience. Playing for the Hotchkiss soccer team is one of the main reasons I’ve enjoyed my high school experience so far and I credit that to my coaches, my teammates, our fans at school, and everyone who has supported our team since I've been a part of it. I believe I would be a positive addition to any college soccer team and am actively pursuing becoming part of one.
