Personal Statement

My pursuit of a collegiate soccer experience is dually driven by success on the pitch and across all other categories of my life. As a natural competitor, I thoroughly enjoy the process of working hard, learning to evolve and seeing the result in the shape of growth in my personal game and the positive influence to my teammates. The other side of my motivation to play college soccer is the positive impact it would have on my academic and personal life. The beautiful game has taught me unlimited values and life lessons, and has helped me build countless invaluable relationships. As a highly academic-focused student, these learned growth experiences and connections are essential for success in the classroom and in life. This balanced, holistic lifestyle is what I hope to achieve by contininuing to grow alongside the sport and those around me in college.

  • Player Evaluation:Indiana ODP Field Player Evaluation for 2017/2018 for Ezra Fuller 4-Outstanding; 3- Above Average; 2-Average; 1- Needs Improvement 1) On the Ball: a) Juggling- 3- Challenge yourself to improve on the juggle of the ball. This helps you to develop a strong first touch. Target 50+ juggles every time you work. b) Use of both feet- 3- Use both feet well, remember that the ability to use the left and right foot always makes a player more dangerous. c) 1v1 ability- 3- Your 1v1 has improved this year. When in possession be sure to push the ball to outside of defender. Keep head up and see the open space to play to. 2) Receiving: a) First Touch- 3- This is where your juggles always pay off. b) Proper Technique- 3.5 - Always work on allowing the ball across your body to your far foot. This allows for a positive first touch and sets you up also for accurate passes when under pressure. c) Turning with the Ball- 3- This also is achieved with proper receiving the ball as it sets you up for success with this. Work on your ability to turn with the ball in one fast fluid motion. When you receive the ball be sure to keep your head up to see the entire field and this allows knowledge of defenders as well as your teammates that are open for passing opportunities. 3) Ball Striking: a) Inside Foot Passing- 3- When passing proper form is key for this. Keep your head up (looking for target player), when passing follow through and communicate to target player to allow them to realize they’re the target for the pass. b) Lofted/Chipped Balls- 3- Continue to work on different styles of passing; ball on the ground, ball in the air. When you master this you will have the ability to greatly increase your creative play. c) Driven Balls/Finishing- 3.5- You have improved on this. Be sure that when you strike the ball, lock your ankle and follow through. Be sure that you also are facing your target with your body and your head is up to see the target. 4) Quickness: a) Acceleration- 3- Continue to develop your explosive speed either when you have the ball and when pushing to the open space to receive a pass. b) Change of Direction-3- When changing direction be sure to play the ball; when in your possession, to the open space. Keep your head up to see the channels that are available to you. 5) Speed: a) Overall Pace- 3- Continue to work and train at game speed. If you can master playing at speed many opportunities will open for you in your soccer future. b) Pace with the Ball-3- The same as above, please always look at playing at game speed in training enviroments. c) Speed of Thought- 3- As well as speed on the ball be sure to have speed of thought during play. By this always be looking for the next chance on the pitch to get open, stop the attack, start your attack. 6) Defensive Ability: a) Proper Technique-3- You have improved with this. Don’t stab with your foot, don’t poke with your foot, don’t dive in at player with ball. Contain the attacker and cause them to only have bad choices. When the attacker’s head drops you will win the ball, just contain them. b) 1v1 Defending- 3- You have shown improvement with this. c) Group Defending-3- Be sure to recognize if you’re the first or second defender. Don’t be flat with the other defender. 7) Tactical: a) Decision Making-3- You are showing you are a student of the game. b) Movement without the Ball-3- Be sure that when you don’t have the ball you are getting to the open position on the field. Communicate with your teammates if you’re open for the pass or even a second defender. 8) Mental: a) Coachability- 4- Very open to new ideas and works to improve. b) Desire-4- Works to be a better player. c) Conssitency-4- Never worry about mistakes, they just mean you’re getting better. Total Average Score: 4-3. Potential Regional Pool Player; 3.4-3.0 Potential State Team Player; 2.9-2.5 Potential State Team Pool Player; 2.4-2.0 State Team Pool- Score: 3.2 General Comments- It has been very enjoyable watching your development this year. Your work has shown through. Always work with the ball outside of training. Always give 110% 100% of the time and only good things will follow. Keep up the hard work and see you on the pitch!
