I love soccer. My mom was my first coach and we played every day. I quickly became the number one player on our rec team, top goal scorer and number one in assists. In 5th grade I joined a more selective team, had a great season and was picked for a local travel team in 6th grade. That was when everyone else on my team and the teams we were playing hit their growth spurts. I was left behind at 4 foot something, desperate to reach 100 lb and facing kids who were approaching six foot and growing six-packs and mustaches. That was when the real hard work, perseverance and determination kicked in. I had to work twice as hard as everyone else at practice, go to the gym, run, organize extra practices with my friends and spend hours with my mom or alone at the soccer field working on skills to give myself an edge. I had to eat right, sleep right and put all my focus and resolve into being the most healthy, most skillful, the strongest and the fastest that I could be. I did not stop during COVID and was rewarded by being picked as a key starting player for my high school JV team in the fall of 2021.
Finally, between the fall seasons of 2021 and 2022 I grew several inches, started to put on healthy weight and my disadvantage in stature was not a thing anymore. My hard work over the last few years paid off and in the summer of 2022 I was picked by coach Emile Mbouh for his travel team Laurel Lions and in the fall of 2022, as a junior, worked my way up to a starting position on my high school varsity team.
Soccer is my favorite activity, but I have other activities and interests. I trained for and completed a full Tough Mudder, I run indoor and outdoor track for my high school, I have worked my way up to a leadership position in the JROTC at my school and I participate in service projects with my church. I am also a dedicated student. I am organized and I work hard to get good grades. I would love to play soccer at college and believe I would do a great job at balancing academics with athletics, utilizing the hard lessons I had to learn about hard work, determination and always persevering.
