Personal Statement
My name is Edward (Teddy) Kolesnikov. I am in the class of 2018 and a junior at Anderson High School in Cincinnati, OH. I began playing soccer when I was four years old, so soccer has been in my life for as long as I can remember. When I was in the fourth grade my parents encouraged me to join a club team because the recreational league was no longer very competitive. A year later I made a higher level team in the SCSA Club and that was when I really fell in love with the game. After two years on that team I decided to make a switch to join a higher level club team at the Beechmont Soccer Club, which is when I really began to develop into a dedicated soccer player. I also decided at that point that I wanted to be a high school soccer player. Since then I have been all about soccer. For the past two years I have been a Co-Captain of my club team.
I have learned a lot through the years of playing soccer. I learned talent only gets you part of the way to the goals you want to accomplish. I learned that I will be successful because I will work as hard as I can, whether in the weight room or on the field. I am unique because although I am not tall, I am strong and play very aggressively which more than makes up for my height. I would compare my playing style to that of Yohan Cabaye of Crystal Palace. We are both short center midfielders who are technical and who can win tackles.
Academically I am very driven. I currently have a 3.75 GPA and I am taking 4 AP courses and 2 Honors courses. My goal for high school is to attain a 3.8 or higher GPA and to receive a 30 or above on the ACT. I took the ACT as a sophomore and received a 26, and I will be taking it again in March. I am an Honor Roll student and this past fall I received the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC) Academic Award for attaining a 3.5 GPA or higher and winning a Varsity Letter. I am a member of the Spanish Honor Society and I am a Link Leader which entails mentoring freshmen throughout their first year in high school.
Outside of school, I am involved in the Youth Group at my church (Anderson Hills United Methodist Church) and attend church regularly. The past two summers I have participated in a week-long Appalachian Service Project with a group from my church. We traveled to under-resourced communities in Kentucky and worked on projects to make repairs on private homes.
My Freshman year was when I decided I wanted to play college soccer. I enjoy representing my school and being part of a team that is bigger than myself. I love the game of soccer, I have tons of passion for it, and I would love to keep playing at the college level.
