Hello, my name is Wolff Olivier Laurent, I am 17 years old and I'm a senior at Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland Vermont. I'm 5'8 and my weight is 150 lbs. I grew up in Haiti with is an island in the Caribbeans.I would say that the chances of getting a good education, and having a future back there were very slim. Our country is one the poorest in the world, and life is very hard back home. That is why I am extremely grateful of having in opportunity to come to the United States and getting a good education.
I've been playing football since I was 8. And where I come from, football is more than a sport. It is a universal language. It has the power to unify people from different and various communities. I love this sport so much because not only it gives us the opportunity to make new friends, but you also find a place where you can belong, build self esteem and confidence. Playing football helps me build valuable life skills, such as hard work, decision-making, problem-solving, and most importantly communication. It also thought me the importance of teamwork and cooperation, balanced by good sportsmanship.
Growing playing football , it has definitely become a talent of mine. For as long as I can remember it has been my greatest passion. I'm really competitive when it comes to the sport. I like going on the field and putting on a show. I want to show people what I can do, and I think that is one of the things that separate me from other athletes. I always dream to be the best and I train 6 days a week for that. I never settle because I believe there is always room for improvement, no matter how long you've played this sport, or how much you train. Every game that I play is a new challenge that I have to accomplish. Another thing that separates me from other athletes is that I don't only think about myself. I think a lot of kids forget that football is a team sport. Yes I'm here to improve but also help my teammates in any way I can. That helps build team chemistry , which overall improves the teams performance during games.
My goal is to keep improving and hopefully play on a professional level (MLS) and hopefully play for the United States men's national soccer team. I hope to be an image , and represent the community I came from. I want to show young kids that it doesn't matter where you come from, dream big! And as long you put in the work and you never give up , your dreams will come true.
