Eddie Barnes '25 Recruiting Profile

     I have always been a leader in my communities. From motivating my teammates through a tough set to standing up for what my peers need at school I always put leadership first. I like to describe my leadership style as leading by bringing others up. When I see a peer stressing out over a test or a teammate terrified for the impending doom of the 200 fly, I see it as my responsibility to bring them up and help them rise to the challenge. In moments like this, I get to collide my senses of humor and leadership. Apart from swimming, leading, and helping other people be their best is my passion.  

     As I said before, Swimming is my passion. I always have felt a sense of peace in the water, it's a place where work hard and let all my problems dissolve into the water. My love for swimming can be traced back to a number of things, but I like to think that it started on a small summer-only team in southern New Hampshire. I started there getting a 50 second 50 free, and living in fear of a 100. I would love to see the look on my younger self's face when he was told that he would become a distance swimmer, and do the 500, 1000, and even 1650. This was all thanks to a wonderful coach, she was able to inspire little me to love the sport of swimming, which kicked off this journey that I get to enjoy every day.
