Personal Statement
My name is Patrick Lance from Gilbertsville, Pa. I am soon to be entering my junior year of high school. I swim for my high school and YMCA team and I would consider myself a substantial asset and leader to any team. I am very energetic and enthusiastic when it comes to goals that are important to me. If it so happens to be something that is my least favorite interest, I am the type of person who looks for the benefits instead of the downfalls. I stand at 5'9" and weigh approximately 170lbs. I am our schools 100 butterflyer and 50, 100, 200, & 500 freestyler; however, I am also a team player and will do any event my coaches need me to do in order to get points or to get the other athletes some new times and experiences. I promise you I will give my absolute 110% effort in every race. For my upcoming junior year I will be given the honor of being the team captain the next two years. Since I am going into my junior year of high school I've only had two years on the high school team, but I can honestly say I have had the best memories of my life there, and I want to make many more memories and plenty of new ones. Every meet presented a goal for me: to make every coach, athlete, and parent remember my name, and that is exactly what I do. I have been awarded the freshman and sophomore 100 fly school record and freshman 200 free school record. I also placed 7th at high school Districts in 100 fly and 26th at States. For my YMCA team I placed 35th in the 100 fly at the 2015 YMCA Short Course Nationals and qualified for three more events: The 50, 100, & 200 free. My work ethic is very important to me. I want to be the best ,and I will do whatever it takes to acquire this goal. I will give my ultimate effort every morning, afternoon, and dryland practice to ensure this. I do not let anything get in the way of my goal, and if I were to get knocked down by life, I will do what I do best: Look for the benefits and not the downfalls and find a way to overcome the obstacle. I strive to help the team have faith in themselves. I want to make sure that every one of my teammates knows that they can do whatever it is they want to, whether it be inside the pool or out. I have also been told by my teammates that I am very energetic and am able to psych other swimmers up before their race. Some even tell me that I am the reason for their best times. As a student, I am open minded. I like to think outside the box to generate new creativity. I currently have a 3.0 GPA and have not taken my SATs/ACTs yet. I am also a very active cadet of my school's NJROTC program here in Boyertown. NJROTC has helped me realize that I want to serve our country with the utmost honor I can give after I graduate college. The program and my SNSI & NSI are the main reason for the person I am inside the pool and in the classroom. My academic strengths have been in the science section of academics ever since the start of high school. I find any type of science very interesting but also a challenge, which is what I love most about it. Some upcoming goals that I hope to achieve are that by the end of my high school career I will be within the top five fastest swimmers in the 100, 200, and 500 free. I will achieve the position of PIAA District 1's top three swimmers in all my events in both Districts and States and go down as one of Boyertown's best. For my YMCA swim career I will be making A finals at future Nationals in all my events and also reaching my top athletic goal of obtaining the 100 fly Olympic Trial cut. Academically I plan to pursue my dreams by challenging myself with honors and AP science courses. I will as a student do whatever it takes to raise my GPA and get high scores on my SATs and ACTs.
