The love of tennis runs in my family. My grandpa was an assistant college coach, and my dad played on his college team. I have been taking tennis lessons since I was in elementary school and playing in tournaments since I was in middle school. I could not wait for the day when I could compete as part of my high school's tennis team. Last year as a freshman, I played in the number one singles position and learned a lot about myself and my game. Every match, win or lose, was a chance to learn more about myself and to improve my game. I enjoy both the individual and team aspects of tennis as a sport. As a singles player, I enjoy being pitted against another player - one on one - where I have total control over my game. As a doubles player, I enjoy working with a partner on strategy and pumping up one another to defeat our opponents. As part of the team, I enjoy running drills together during practices to improve our games and rooting on my teammates during their matches to help the team come home with a win.
I am a good student, as my transcript shows, who especially excels in the fields of science and mathematics and am considering various majors in those fields. I am looking for a college which will meet my academic goals in terms of preparing me for a career in my chosen field, and I am looking for a coach and teammates who will help me to continue to improve my game. I would love the opportunity to play competitive tennis at the collegiate level.
