Hello, my name is Oscar Gonzales. I started running track and field in the 8th grade. I signed up for the 800 and 1600 and instantly fell in love running. I planned on joining cross country my freshman year, and that summer, I started training. I trained in Colorado with my cousin and my uncle's community college cross country team. There I began to learn about myself, ran harder and faster, and my time kept improving. I was excited to join my high school's cross country team. I joined the team and ran Varsity for Cross Country and Track. I noticed I would PR with each race. I hold the new record at my high school, but I am not satisfied with my time. In track, my PR for the 3200m is 10:00, and my goal is to break and be under 9:40. My PR for the 1600m is 4:25. My PR for the 5000 in cross country is 16:03, and I made First Teams All-State. I have qualified for State for track and cross country. I participated in a club cross country team before COVID-19. Unfortunately, the global pandemic interrupted the track season in 2020, and I am not in club track at this time. I am pleased to have a high school 2021 season.
I may be the first to fall asleep, but I am also the first to wake up! Friends and family often praise me regarding my dedication to keeping up with the demands of school, training, and personal life. Being a student-athlete has taught me how to prioritize my time, go to tutoring if need be, learn about nutrition, and stay balanced. I am excited to run in college, to be trained, and to improve what I love. Running is a big part of my life, and I look forward to developing and expanding my skills. I am open to learning, I am coachable, and I look forward to reaching my goals. I am a Junior and look forward to my senior year. Currently, I am working with my coaches and the athletic trainer, following a workout plan and watching my diet.
Academically, I enjoy math, biology, and I am interested in applying those skills to kinesiology. I am easygoing, work hard, coachable, and look forward to developing a running career. Thank you for your time. I will not disappoint you.
Respectfully,
Oscar Gonzales
