Hello my name is Javier 'Nate' Memba and I am a Junior at the Tatnall School in Wilmington, DE. I started running track in my Freshman year, and enjoy being an active member and leader both on my team and at school. Although I've participated and excelled in a number of sports, track has really become a part of who I am and something I very much want to compete in throughout college.
As of my Junior year, I have been promoted to be the captain of my sprint team. My times over my career have gotten increasingly faster, but my greatest year of growth so far has been my Sophomore year.I began Sophomore year running a time of 57.21 seconds for my 400 meter race, but halfway through the season, on a weekend when I had had two meets back-to-back, I made two huge PRs dropping my time from 57.21 to 55.6 on Friday, and dropping my time again to 54.4 on Saturday. I dropped my time once more to end the season with an official time of 53.39 and an unofficial relay split of 52.3 in the 400 meter. At the end of my Sophomore year I stepped up my effort and began training even harder for the next season. I trained daily in the summer with Coach Maybank, and during the Fall . Both he and I have very high hopes for the upcoming Spring season.
I love competing as hard academically as I do on the track. That said, however, I did not do well my Freshman year as the stress of switching to a new school (my fourth because of my mother's job relocations) and other personal issues got me. Just as with track, my academics improved in leaps and bounds, from my unaccustomed low GPA of 2.8 my Freshman year, to a GPA of 3.6 my Sophomore year. I have equally high hopes for my Junior year of academics as I do for track. I look to go to school for psychology when I do take the next step on to college.
