Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Reagan! I live in Camden-Wyoming, Delaware, and am a sophomore at Caesar Rodney High School. I began playing golf about 5 years ago and have been playing competitively for about 3 years. I think I would be an asset to any team as a player and a person. I enjoy playing in tournaments and have found success in competitive settings. For me, there is almost nothing more rewarding than being prepared through practice to hit the shot when it matters. I strive to be better and to do better and am more than willing to do the work to make it happen. I have big aspirations of playing college golf and later becoming a sports psychologist. I used to struggle a lot with my mental game, but by working with a sports psychologist at IMG I have learned how to effectively think, react, and perceive my golf game and performance. I am so pleased to say that my mental game has had so much improvement over the past 6 months.

Outside of golf, I value my academics and have found success in the classroom by maintaining a 99.6/100 GPA. In 2017, my younger sister and I co-founded a nonprofit organization called Buckets of Love (www.bucketsoflove.us). Buckets of Love helps to bring joy to deserving kids going through tough times by bringing buckets full of toys, games, and crafts to them. Now we are a national nonprofit organization that has impacted over 10,000 kids with buckets donated in all 50 states. Being at the heart of Buckets of Love has brought me so much joy and has also given me countless life skills. For example how to deliver an impactful speech to a large crowd and how to properly look someone in the eye and shake their hand. I am also a member of the varsity swim team at my high school. The swim team isn't amazing athletically, but it has been so great to be in such a supportive environment that values teamwork so much.

Over the past few years, I have learned to never shy away from commitment and that there is nothing wrong with making a big ask in golf, school, or in my nonprofit. This is my promise to you that I will be a leader on and off the golf course. I promise to continue being hardworking both academically and athletically. I promise to be a supportive teammate, and a fantastic representation of my school, regardless of where I end up. Thank you for your time and I hope you will consider me for your team.

  • PKBGT Junior at Pine Needles
  • 12/28/22 to 12/29/22
  • I won the PKBGT Junior at Pine Needles after rounds of 75 and 78 (+9) on the 5800 yard US Open venue. I am proud of my play on day one especially tee to green, as I hit 15/18 greens in regulation, which was one of my goals going into the round. Unfortunately, I had some trouble putting which resulted in the round of 3 over. I went into day two with a four-shot lead and a clear mind. Unfortunately, I struggled with accuracy off the tee early in the round, which resulted in a less-than-ideal start. I was +5 through 4, but regrouped and played the last 14 holes in +1, despite not having the best version of my game. I am so happy to have gotten my first PKBGT win by 6 shots and with how I played and carried myself.

  • PKBGT National Tournament of Champions
  • 12/10/22 to 12/11/22
  • I finished tied for 8th place in the Prep division of the PKBGT National Tournament of Champions with scores of 82, 75 (+13th). Unfortunately, I didn't have the best version of my game on Saturday. I started the round very strong, with 2 birdies in my first 7 holes. But, I faced some major difficulties towards the middle of the round, a result of missed fairways (due to a shut club face), short game missteps and poor decisions. However, I am proud of the way I finished the first round by pushing through and playing the last four holes in 1 under par. Optimism and determination filled my thoughts going into the second round where, after a 3 putt bogey at the first, I carded 3 consecutive birdies and some pars to start the day. Some unnecessary bogeys around the turn and a double bogey at the ninth were followed by playing the final 6 holes of the tournament in even par. Though there were some mistakes, specifically with putting on very quick greens, I am proud of the ball striking as I hit 15 greens in regulation throughout Sunday. Moving forward, I look to place an extra emphasis in my practice on short game and keeping the club face square in the full swing.

  • Michael Breed Junior Invitational
  • 11/05/22 to 11/06/22
  • It was a fun and successful weekend in Richmond, VA for the Michael Breed Junior Invitational at Independence Run Golf Course (5845 yards). I won the Girls' Freshman/Sophomore Division with scores of 74 and 79 and had the low total score for all girls competing in the tournament. I shot -1 on the front nine of the first round and some difficulties on the back led me to a +3, 74. I played well carding three birdies and ten pars throughout the round. I feel that I did a good job of trusting my preparation and practice, which is something that I have been working on. The second round was a bit of a struggle with my approach shots, a part of my game that is usually pretty reliable. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with some of my iron shots, and the chipping and putting were not 100% cooperating either. This resulted in some unfortunate bogeys and missed opportunities. I drove it well hitting 9/14 fairways not including when I drove the green on the 10th hole. In conclusion, it was a good weekend playing a gorgeous course with some speedy greens. Moving forward, I'd like to spend some extra time in my practice and with my coach hitting different kinds of shots into greens before my next tournament. • PKBGT Colonial Girls Classic
  • 10/29/22 to 10/30/22
  • The Colonial Classic at Williamsburg National with the Peggy Kirkbell Girls Tour ended with scores of 75 and 82 for a two-day total of 157. I played well the first day with a +3 finish after being +4 through 6 holes. I am very proud of how I regrouped and continued with my round with a less-than-ideal start. I did not have my best game on day two, with some struggles of the tee and a triple bogey on the 9th hole due to a ball lost out of bounds. Though each day presented its own triumphs and struggles, it was a lovely weekend of golf playing at a beautiful course. It's always nice to gain experience playing on Bermuda greens (a significant departure from most greens in Delaware). Moving forward, I am working hard to commit and trust my game specifically early in the round, to help get momentum going early. • Camp/Event
  • PKBGT Regional Event at Tanglewood Manor
  • 9/24/22 to 9/25/22
  • I came in second in this two-day event with scores of 82 (+10) and 81 (+9). This was not the best two days for any part of my game. Though I was struggling with my game, I am proud of how I finished the tournament with a 1 over 37 on the back nine on day two. To me, this showed patience and focus which has been something I have been working on with my sports psychologist.
  • Camp/Event
  • Philadelpia Junior Tour at Tanglewood Mannor
  • 9/17/22 to 9/17/22
  • I shot 80 during a pretty rough day of chipping and putting hitting 11/14 fairways and 12/18 greens in regulation. This was a very eye-opening round because it isolated the part of my game with the most room for improvement; chipping and putting. The plan I have made with my coach is to work on some very specific drills and put a lot of time and energy towards mending this weakness.
  • Camp/Event
  • Philadelphia Junior Tour at Odessa National
  • 9/10/22 to 9/10/22
  • A pretty solid day of ball striking led me to a 77 (+5) at Odessa National playing in a Philadelphia Junior Tour Event. I was pleased with my even par front nine and disappointed with how I played on the back nine. My playing partners tested my patience as each of them shot around 100, but I think that is a productive thing to focus on moving forward.
  • Camp/Event
  • Wild Quail Junior Club Championship
  • 8/13/22 to 8/14/22
  • I am happy with my performance in my club's Junior Club Championship after shooting 73, 76, and tying for first place. Unfortunately, I lost to a birdie on the second playoff hole, but it was fun to be in contention and feel some pressure. It can always be better, but it is nice to see some improvement as a result of my hard work. I am looking forward to a strong finish to my fall season over the next few weeks.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Qualifier - Junior at Dupont presented by Weatherman
  • 8/01/22 to 8/01/22
  • In this one-round qualifier, I shot an 80 and placed T14th after having trouble on the putting greens. I played well tee to green yet faced significant challenges with the putter. I wish I could have played better, but I know what needs to be worked on as I move forward.
  • Camp/Event
  • Teen World Championship
  • 7/28/22 to 7/30/22
  • An uncharacteristic first two days at the Teen World Championship presented by US Kids Golf led me to a T62 finish shooting 85, 85, 76. Looking back at these three rounds, there are countless lessons learned and I am proud of the way I conducted myself even through some struggles. The first day of the tournament, I struggled with my ball striking and made some changes in focus points moving into Day 2. The next day, I hit it much better and unfortunately had two very big numbers on the scorecard on our seventh and sixteenth holes of the day. However, my positive response to those situations and ability to regroup shows major growth from how I would have reacted to those scenarios a year ago. Day 3 was my most consistent round carding 15 pars total with nine consecutive pars to finish my round. Overall, I wish this tournament had gone differently for me but, I am grateful to have had this opportunity. I had an amazing time at Pinehurst in one of the most special places in all of golf. There are plenty of positives and learning lessons to take from this experience as I prepare for my next tournament. • Camp/Event
  • Odessa National Better Ball Championship
  • 7/23/22 to 7/23/22
  • I shot a 69 (-3) on my own ball in this partner event playing steadily throughout the entire round. The highlight of this round is hitting 17/18 greens in regulation, a new personal best on the statistical side, which helped me shoot my lowest ever competitive round. I am very happy with the progress my game is making as I continue to work hard every day to try to perform my best.
  • Camp/Event
  • Delaware Junior Girls Championship
  • 7/06/22 to 7/07/22
  • I shot a 78, 77 in route to a second place finish in the Delaware Junior Championship. Playing in this event was a great learning experience especially playing as the defending champion. As always, there were many learning lessons to take from these two rounds, and I am happy with how I played even through some difficulties on the putting green. • AJGA Windham Mountain Resort Preview
  • 6/29/22 to 6/30/22
  • I finished tied for seventh with scores of 81,79 and am happy with my performance in my first AJGA tournament. While I didn't score as well as I had hoped, I fought through some difficult points throughout the rounds and pushed though even when I didn't have my best game. It was a great experience and I learned very much getting to play on a more mountainous terrain than I typically play. Link to tournament leaderboard: https://www.ajga.org/leaderboard-tbd

  • Under Armour Junior National Championship
  • 6/23/22 to 6/24/22
  • I came in third place after shooting scores of 84,82 in the girls 15-18 division. I didn't play as well as I had hoped, but learned a lot and know what to do going forward. I was also recognized as an Under Armour All American. Link to tournament leaderboard: https://www.uagolftour.com/page/show/6939984-2022-summer-nationals
  • Camp/Event
  • Philadelphia Junior Tour at Maple Dale Country Club
  • 6/07/22 to 6/07/22
  • I shot 78 and won this event playing the back nine in even par after a tough front nine. This experience further reinforced the idea of never giving up and keeping a positive attitude even when you aren't having the best ball striking day. I also carded the lowest score of the day for boys and girls of all ages. Link to leaderboard: https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/8036330610458921428

  • Peggy Kirkbell/Notah Begay III North Carolina Regional Qualifier
  • 6/04/22 to 6/05/22

  • DIAA (Delaware Inetrscholastic Athletic Association) State Championship
  • 5/31/22 to 6/01/22
  • My first state championship as a high school freshman didn't produce the scores I had hoped, but it was a respectable end to this school season and a good baseline for the next three years. I shot 78, 80 to come in fifth for the girls. I was also pleased to receive First Team All State Honors. It was a tough two days on the course, but there were still a lot of fantastic shots and lessons learned. It was a really fun season and I am looking forward to the next few years with this awesome team!
  • Camp/Event
  • Peggy Kirkbell DuPont Classic
  • 5/07/22 to 5/08/22
  • Unfortunately the first day of this event got rained out so it was shortened to just 18 holes. I shot a 78 in cold, wet, and windy conditions. The round was highlighted by ten consecutive pars in the middle of the round. I finished up in a three way tie for second place. There were a lot of positive takeaways from this round and it is always good to gain experience playing in tough conditions. • Sean Foley Golf Camp
  • 4/06/22 to 4/22/22
  • I attended the Sean Foley Performance Academy for 2 weeks during spring break where I learned so much about my game and how to improve it. Time was spent working on refining the full swing and extensive practice on chipping and putting. Off the golf course, I focused on my mental game and strength and conditioning. It was an amazing time and I even got the opportunity to work with Coach Sean on my swing one on one.
