Personal Statement
As a prospective college athlete, my goal at the collegiate level is to fully balance both my academic and personal life, as I work to pursue a degree in political science. I also expect myself to grow as an athlete during this time, breaking 4:05, 8:59 and 15:00 in the respective events of the 1600, 3200, and 5K. I see myself as an all-around runner with no true specialty event. I enjoy taking it out hard, but I can also sit and kick. I prefer to run the longer distance events, but the middle distance events are also enjoyable for me. I do very well with doubling, and I always run my best times at the last race of the year. I have never had any major injuries during track or cross country.
I enjoy pushing myself in school, and I work to take a strong course load. My strength lies in testing over busywork, and I enjoy taking tests like the ACT and SAT. A major factor that differentiates me from most runners is that I am constantly working to fully understand the intricacies of the sport as a whole. I am constantly reading articles on training, and I love to be involved in a hands-on setup for my training.
I do best with coaches who are firm with me and knowledgeable about the sport. Although I am self motivated, I also run best in groups. I find honesty extremely important, and I also love taking part in leadership opportunities on the team. To me, the most paramount attributes a person can display are: dedication, perseverance, and a refusal to give up. I have a very fast recovery rate, so I enjoy being pushed on a weekly basis. After college I plan to attend law school, and continue running, as it is truly an integral part of my life. The most important things I look for in a college running program are a knowledgeable coach, ample soft surfaces to run on, a warmer climate, and a good group of guys who can push me over the years.
