Personal Statement
My name is Collin Silliman, and I attend Woodward Academy in College Park, Georgia. I will be graduating in 2015. I am currently a member of the Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams at Woodward Academy. My passion is distance running, which I began doing in 5K races when I was 6 years old. I joined the Track and Cross Country teams in Middle school at Woodward, and we won State titles in 2009 and 2010. I finished 13th individually in the 2010 Championships. In 2011, my Freshman year, our Cross Country team finished second in Region 6AAA and fourth in the State AAA classification. I finished 29th individually in the State race, out of 223 participants. In 2012, our team won the Region 6AAA Championship, and I made the All-Region Team with an 8th place finish. Our team finished second in the State AAA Championships, and I placed 21st out of 213 participants. I recently completed a successful 2013 Cross Country season. I made the All-Region Team in 6AAA, and finished 20th individually in the State AAA Championships, out of 221 runners. Our team placed second in Region 6AAA, and third in the State AAA Championships. I earned Woodward Academy's "First Place Award" at the team banquet in December, signifying that I earned the most points for my team during the 2013 season.
Scholastically, I am an Honor Roll student with a 3.5 GPA (out of 4.0). The curriculum at Woodward Academy is very rigorous. I am taking Honors and AP courses, primarily in the sciences. I am looking for a school that has a strong biology program to accentuate my pre-veterinary studies. My primary objective is to attend a top flight college or university, where I can contribute as a distance runner and pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian and small business owner. In my spare time, I volunteer at a local veterinary hospital as an assistant in small animal surgery.
