Personal Statement
Aloha, my name is Quade Laʻakea Aiu and I am currently a junior at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Ever since the age of 5, I have competed in track and field. Running has always been my greatest passion and talent. As a freshman, I was able to earn a spot on my varsity track team and compete at states. Last year as a sophomore, I made it to the state finals for a second year and was able to score points for my team in the 300mH and the 4x400m relay.
Although track is seen as an individual sport, it has taught me the importance of team work and how every person has a special role that can help contribute to the team as a whole. I always look to motivate my teammates and lead them in the right direction. Since I’m one of the older athletes on my team, I always push my teammates to find their best effort so that we can be the best team in the state. I have a very strong work ethic, and don’t feel satisfied if I go easy.
Being a student before an athlete has always been my first priority, and I take my academics very seriously just like track. I always try to challenge myself by enrolling in the harder classes, like Honors and AP courses. I’ve learned that taking harder courses will push you to succeed further and I hope to someday become a pilot or engineer. On my free time, I volunteer in my community at Papahana Kuaola and Hui Ku Maoli Ola, to practice Hawaiian values and restore endangered plant species. Participating in local organizations has taught me to be thankful for the community that has helped to shape me into the person I am today.
Running track in college is a dream that I want to make a reality. I am very passionate about the sport of running, and I would strengthen any Track & Field program. I am a versatile athlete that strives for greatness, ready to hurdle new challenges and experience higher levels of competition.
