My name is Marckus Vazquez. I currently am an Honor Student at Ottawa Township High School in Ottawa, Illinois. My grade point average is a weighted 4.0 and unweighted 3.5. I am a team player with the determination and drive to constantly work towards bettering myself in all areas of my life. I started my track career in elementary school which I proceed to State level in 800m, long jump and high jump. My freshman year in High School, I participated in 800m, 4x800m relays, High Jump, and Pole Vaulting. I represented my school as one of the top three athletes in those areas at the ABC meets throughout the season.I acquired many ribbons and medals during these events. During my sophmore year, I again represented OHS at the ABC level meets winning many 1st and 2nd place medals in Pole Vault and a 6th place in High Jump. I have competed at both my age level and as a Varsity in track since my freshman year. In August 2013 I participated in the AAU Jr. Olympics and placed 11th in the 17-18 age group although I am only 16.
Now that it is summer and I will be going into my Junior year next year I decided to focus on and take my Pole Vaulting to another level and joined Jump High Athletic Club. I recently qualified for the AAU Jr. Olympics games in Michigan and I am scheduled to vault on Saturday, August 3rd in the 17-19 year old division. I am 16 but this is the division that my birth year falls under. Also just for fun and more competitive practice, I will be competing in the Grand Haven Michigan Beach Vault on July 12-13th.
I am looking for a college that will let me continue both my Honors education and track participation. Being on the soccer team would be an added bonus. It is very important to me that the college I choose is a financially good decision as well.
