Personal Statement

Introduction

My name is Jeremiah Tangren, I am a 15-year-old 9th grader running for The Rams at Regent Preparatory School in Tulsa, OK and The Jenks America Track and Cross-Country club. I have been running since I can remember participating in road races, trail races, triathlons, and since the 2019/20 school year I have participated in Cross country and track events. I prefer events 1 mile through 15k and excel at the 1600, 5k, and 10k distances especially on the trails and in Cross Country.

Goals

  • MS – During my 7th grade career I set for myself the goal of finishing first in every middle school XC race. While I was not able to accomplish that goal finishing in the second position 3 of 6 races I learned a lot about strategy, being a good teammate and good sportsmanship. My goal for the track season was to break 5:00 for the 1600 and to set the school 7th grade record in the 800, and 1600 distances. By the grace of God and lots of hard work I was able to run a 4:56 1600 and a 2:22 800 accomplishing both goals. During my 8th grade career in XC I plan to accomplish 6 of 6 first place finishes, which has since been accomplished with my best 2 mile time of 10:25:26. In track I plan to break a 4:45 1600 and set the 8th grade school records in the 800 and 1600.
  • HS – During my high school career I want to run on the varsity team all 4 years continuing to improve my times and stay healthy culminating with my times as a senior being sub 15:00 for the XC 5k and my 1600-time sub 4:00. I would like to represent The South at the Footlocker Eastbay XC Championships. It is also important to me and my parents that I balance my studies with my sport and maintain a 4.0 GPA.
  • College – I look forward to attending a division 1 school that is competitive in Cross Country and that has high academic standards. I want to go to a school that will help me to continue to develop as a runner and that cares as much about my physical and mental health as they do my times. I also want to have degree options that will prepare me for my career after running.
  • Beyond – I dream big and have high aspirations for myself and would love to represent the United States internationally through Track and Cross Country perhaps even in the Olympics.
