Personal Statement
I am a Pole Vaulter at Banks High School, outside of Portland, Oregon. My goal is to attend a university with strong academics and a strong Track & Field program.
I am about to begin my Senior year, and carry a 3.1 GPA. I began competing in the Pole Vault my Freshman year. After my Sophomore year I knew I had found my sports passion and dedicated myself to the vault, working on my technique, strength and speed. I now train year round with Coach Rick Baggett of the Willamette Striders Track Club. I plan to compete in the coming months at indoor meets in the Northwest, as well as the Reno Pole Vault Summit in January and US Indoor Nationals in March.
I have definitely followed in my older brother’s footsteps in the Pole Vault, but had a much later start. He jumped 17’01” this past season as a Sophomore at the University of Oregon. He is a constant source of encouragement and inspiration for me. Having gotten a later start, I’m confident that I have as much, or more potential in the future.
I recently moved my opening height to 14’00”, and my coach feels I’ll be jumping 15’00” and better shortly. I am currently vaulting on 14'/165 poles, holding at 13'06", so significantly over my weight, and with room to move up and continually improve.
I plan on studying Business Administration and have already started two of my own businesses.
I feel I have the ability, dedication, work ethic, and positive attitude that would contribute to a top Track & Field program.
