Personal Statement
At an early age of 8, I have always been interested in, and fully participated in indoor and outdoor sports. Whether it was gymnastics, soccer, XC, track, or football, I always found a passion and desire to engage in these sports with a high drive to succeed. I realized by working hard, staying focused and embracing the love of the game, I found it easy to achieve my goals. It wasn’t until 7th grade when I was approached with the opportunity to try a new athletic event; pole vaulting. I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to try it but given my athletic ability, I was encouraged to give it a chance. What did I have to lose? After the first few practices, I found myself wanting more of this “thrill of flying high in the sky”. After my high school freshman year, I made a self-commitment to engage my mind and body, 100%, in the pole vaulting world. My ambition to become the best I could be at this new athletic journey was going to challenge me in many ways. With hard work, determination and a drive to succeed, each season was rewarded with new PR’s and a high level of self-accomplishment!
Outside of the athletic scene, I have been involved in many activities which have molded me to become a more responsible and well-rounded young man. I am a member of NJHS and NSHSS. I have been employed at Home Depot for the last 2 years and was awarded the Homer Award this summer. This award is given to employees who go above and beyond the standard level of customer service. I mow lawns, and do odd jobs for neighbors when called upon. Most importantly, I continue to learn and grow as my parents pursue to instill their mid-western morals and values upon me daily. I owe my hard working ethic and drive to be a positive role model, student athlete, and ideal citizen of our community to my family.
Being a student athlete takes commitment and the ability to find a healthy balance between family, school, athletics, work, and life. I have found that healthy balance. I have conquered many challenges and obstacles along my journey to get to where I am today. I am grateful for everything and to everyone who has guided me along this path I have chosen. I believe that my ambition to succeed on and off the runway is my pathway to a great collegiate future. I am so excited for my senior year and my spring track season to begin. I have new goals to reach and I can’t wait to set a new pole vaulting PR! It’s going to be an amazing year.
