Personal Statement

I am exceptionally high achieving academically and demonstrate good character in my community. I've made the most of my time in high school, participating in prestigious, selective organizations including

To put it simply, I want to run in college because I love running! I am happiest when I am active outdoors and always work hard to reach my goals. I've had a few setbacks with multiple running-related injuries, but when I am healthy, I am willing to do whatever it takes to improve and have shown that I am capable of improving my times.

In my spare time, I enjoy biking, hanging out with friends, playing in orchestra and community band, and reading. I am an active individual who has taken on a plethora of different responsibilities, including holding a job, making high honors consistently in school, and participating in sports and co-curriculars in and outside of school.

Training

  • I've trained for three half marathons and several running seasons
  • 3 years
  • My training is mostly independent, which makes me especially prone to injury. This past XC season, I had tendonitis in my hip-flexors due to improper training techniques in the summer. I've also had minor groin strains, IT-band syndrome, and other minor injuries in the past. I am hoping to be more realistic next summer when I train. Having said that, I have run three half marathons, one of which I completed the summer after my 8th-grade year. My PR for the half is a 1:32:50 for a hilly course (Essex half in VT), in which I placed 3rd overall and 1st for my age group.

Additional Sports

  • Skiing
  • 2 years
  • Varsity Team
  • I do nordic skiing in the winter to stay in shape. This past year I made the varsity team for my school and was on the 4-person relay team at the VT state classic championships. To be completely honest, I strongly dislike nordic and do it solely for the r

Academic Accomplishments

Are you in honor classes?
Yes. I have taken the maximum number of honors classes that are offered at my school; including accelerated writing, history, and geometry during my freshman year, and accelerated literature and algebra II my sophomore year. I took a more advanced government course in VHS as an alternative for my schools standard "We The People" course.
Are you in AP/IB classes?
Yes. Last year, I was one of two sophomores at my school who were permitted to take an AP class. I chose to take AP statistics based on its usefulness in other courses. This year, I am taking AP language and composition, AP environmental science, and AP psychology online. Next year, I hope to take AP literature and composition, AP comparative government and politics, and AP calculus AB. I am not currently enrolled in AP united states history because I took a college seminar on American history this past summer.
Registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center?
No

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsI am one of ten students (out of roughly 1,000) at my school to earn a "gold pin", the highest level award for academic excellence. I maintain some of the highest grades at my school while remaining involved in rigorous courses. I am a member of The Anti Defamation League's "A World of Difference" peer training, have been inducted to the Champlain Chapter of the National Honor Society, and have made high honors every semester thus far. The state of Vermont has abolished GPAs and moved to a proficiency system, but I had a near perfect GPA my freshman year, earning an A+ in 13/14 semester courses and one A in honors English. I have also been selected as math/world language student of the month at my school out of a pool of roughly 1,000 students. My sophomore year, I was selected to join the Governor's Institutes of Vermont for a nine-day seminar on Information Technology and Digital Media, in which we learned to program basic online-games. I received an academic award based on my pa
