Ka'ala Deitch '20 Recruiting Profile

Aloha mai kākou, greetings to you! My name is Kaʻala and I am currently in the 12th grade at Ke Kula O Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu. Iʻve been attending this Hawaiian Medium education school since I was 4 years old, and therefore, I am fluent in both English and Hawaiian. My upbringing has been centered around the Hawaiian language and culture and this has taught me to be more respectful and appreciative of all the opportunities in my life. I began playing volleyball in the 5th grade when my school began itʻs volleyball program. Since then, I have played for 2 different club teams, one of which I am currently on, Pilipaʻa Boys Volleyball Club where I was awarded the Aloha tournament MVP. I also play for the Hilo High Varsity volleyball team as the starting Outside hitter because Ke Kula O Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu is a lab school under Hilo High. During my previous season of my junior year, I was awarded the BIIF Player Of The Year. My playing position varies depending on the state of our team at the moment or the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing team. My main position is Outside hitter during the club and high school seasons. I have also played as an Opposite and Libero when needed. My main goal in this sport is to play for a college team at the highest level of competition possible. I want to challenge and prove to myself that through continuous improvement and self-commitment, I can accomplish this goal.
