I have been playing water polo since I was 11. While have played many positions, I have been the starting Set D for the past few years. My strength gives me a great advantage over most players (just as an example, I currently bench press over 315 pounds). I am also a fast and strong swimmer and have a very powerful shot. Last season, I effectively shut down every set that played against me in my very competitive league, resulting in my selection for the SCVAL 1st team. I was captain of my JV team for my freshman and sophomore years and have been captain of my varsity team since then. This has helped me develop strong leadership skills, which I have used to mentor and support my teammates. Our team has steadily improved and finished second in our league last year.
I was raised by a single father (my mother passed away when I was in kindergarten), which has forced me to become independent and self-reliant in a way that few kids in my generation are. The need to succeed without much support has nurtured my drive in athletics, school and other activities. When not playing water polo, I can usually be found in the gym, with my friends and family, or reading.
