My name is Leo Skatoff, and I’m a current Junior (Class of 2025) at Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut. My goal is to play water polo at an academically challenging school.
I’ve been a member of the Varsity Water Polo program at Staples since 9th grade and am also playing for CT Premier. My primary position is left flat though throughout the course of a game, I function as a utility player. In addition to a fast and accurate shot, I rely on situational awareness and my creativity when it comes to identifying and attacking weaknesses in the defense. I am also a confident, quick, and thorough decision maker who communicates clearly with his teammates.
Academically, I have always taken and excelled within a challenging course load (my transcript is available on NCSA). My interests, however, are in STEM. Over the course of two summers, I have taken Chemistry, allowing me to take AP Chem during my Sophomore year, and Pre-Calculus, allowing me to jump ahead to AP Calculus AB this year, Junior year.
My oldest brother, Hank, is the one who introduced me to water polo back when I was in middle school. In a lot of ways, he was my first coach. I was immediately hooked by the strategy and physicality that the game requires. The sport didn’t take long to become an essential part of who I am. Through the sport, I’ve developed character and confidence that positively impact everything I do in and out of the water. I’ve worked hard to be an ambassador for the sport and elevate my teammates' play as well as their commitment to the game. Through this, I’ve had the chance to improve myself and the sense of community that the sport so naturally fosters. I would love the opportunity to carry this forward to college.
