I am a Native American from the Navajo Nation on my mother’s side and the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma on my father’s side. Currently, in the college softball world there are few Native American athletes and little to no representation which is the reason I wish to be a role model for my tribal communities. My dream is to inspire Native kids who are just like me that they can play at the next level if they work hard and believe in their own abilities.
I am a multi-sport athlete. I am a part of the varsity softball, basketball and badminton teams at Desert Vista High School. I love softball because it allows me to make long-lasting friendships and I adore the softball community in Phoenix, Arizona. Playing in multiple sports can be stressful and frustrating, yet you still want to be the best, which is why doing many sports has made me a lot stronger mentally than many of my peers. With all of the different types of training I do, I firmly believe I am a well-rounded athlete from my footwork training and reflexes in badminton to the endurance and speed I get in basketball which all translates to my softball skillset.
Food is a big part of my family as dinners and lunches connect us and bring friends together; it is where we talk and laugh together. My aunt was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s (thyroid) disease which caused her to be allergic to so many foods that we all used to enjoy together and it caused her to lose a lot of weight very quickly. With nutrition as my major I hope to become a pediatric nutritionist so I may help kids to be able to enjoy good and healthy food that will help them grow stronger so that they can keep enjoying dinner time with their families.
