Personal Statement
My name is Rachelle Garcia. I am a senior attending Monrovia High School in Monrovia, Ca. I am a dedicated student-athlete holding a 3.2 GPA while taking pre-AP and honor courses. I am currently playing for Artesia Punishers - Medina based in Artesia, California.
When I began to pitch, softball became my passion. I learned early it was the practice and dedication I would hold for the sport that would contribute to my success. Softball has taught me many things and has overall has helped me mold myself into the person I am as of right now. For instance, I learned how about time management, how to clearly communicate, and how to work as a team. Now, as I make a transition into high school, I know what I learned will lead to a smooth transition. Currently, I am taking pre-AP course which will allow me to have an easier transition when I begin taking AP classes. My overall goal for high school academically is to graduate with a competitive GPA. I also plan to be involved in programs in the school and volunteer service which involves law enforcement as I have some interest in the criminal justice system.
Softball has taught me self-discipline, communication skills, how to become a team player, and the importance of being a coachable athlete. Self-discipline has developed over time which begins with not swinging at certain pitches or even sticking to a healthy diet before big tournaments. My communication skills help me become a better team player. Instead of asking “why” it turned into “nice try next time kid.” It was the better the communication skills which helped develop bonds with my teammates. Being a coachable athlete is something I pride myself in. I am always willing to learn and know the next steps I can take to become a better person and athlete.
