From the time I was 5, softball has been a big part of my life. From rec league to travel ball, middle school and currently high school, I have pushed myself to continue to improve my game physically, mentally, as a teammate and leader. Softball has taught me a lot about the importance of commitment, hard work, leadership and most of all, possibility of failure. Softball is a game of failure, which is not always easy for me, however if there is one thing I have learned to accept is that mistakes happen. I pride myself on giving 110%, adapting to change, being a communicator and eager to learn. However, accepting that mistakes happen was not an easy adaptation for me. It was one that was necessary, took some time, but it was a lesson learned not only for the game of softball but for life.
This past season, my freshman year of HS ball, I was awarded “Defensive player of the year” and the “TIGER” award, which stands for “team, integrity, grit, energy and resilience”. Winning both of these awards were exciting, however I was most humbled by the fact my teammates were the ones who selected me for the TIGER award. Even though I am highly competitive, I am a team first leader, willing to do what’s necessary for the sake of my team.
My goals for HS is to play for a State Championship title and bring one back to CHS, since 2013. I intend to continue to push myself both on the field and in the classroom and maintain my GPA and graduate with high honors. For the future in college, I plan to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy with an emphasis in athlete injuries/orthopedics. My dream since I was a young girl would be to be able to play at the collegiate level and be able to one day give back and coach young athletes. Thank you for taking the time to consider me as a future player at your college. I look forward to hearing from you soon and proving myself as both a player and person.
Thank you,
Addyson Sherman
