Personal Statement
I do not remember my life without softball. I played for my local parish team from ages 3-15. Like most children, my first experience with a bat and ball was in tee-ball. I remember not wanting to use the tee. I realize now that tee work is probably the most effective way to practice hitting. During my time with my parish team, my love for the game continued to grow year after year. I began pitching underhand in the 3rd grade. When I was in the 6th grade, I was asked to play "up" in the fast pitch division where I started to learn how to windmill pitch. My parish team won the championship three years in a row, and two of those years I was the starting pitcher. My success continued into High School, where the last 3 years my team has gone to the championship game. We finished second my sophomore and junior year, but my senior year, we were able to not only seed at the top of our division, but were able to defeat the 3 year defending champions. We were also able to take the NYC Division A crown. I am very proud of my team for this accomplishment!
I have been playing travel ball since 2009. I have competed in USSSA, ASA, NSA and Triple Crown and College Showcase tournaments. My travel coaches are former college players and have worked to show what it takes to compete on the college level from both an athletic and academic standpoint.
Academically, I stand out from others in my school. I am a student-athlete that has been able to consistently maintain A's and B's in the classroom, while being involved in clubs, training and playing softball at a higher level. I take pride in being a member of the National Honor Society. In college, I plan to follow a Pre-Med track and ultimately would like to become an Orthopedic Surgeon.
I am different from other recruits because I am a well rounded student athlete. I know that in order to succeed on the collegiate level I must maintain focus while continuing to grow athletically, academically, and personally. I hope to find a school that will enhance my growth and development both in and out of the classroom and on the softball field. I am confident that I can succeed at any level of NCAA play. I work hard and will contribute to any team I am fortunate enough to be a part of.
