Personal Statement
Hello Coach,
Thank you for taking time to learn more about me and potentially helping me recognize my dream of playing college fast-pitch! I am searching for a college environment that supports the whole student: strong academic foundation, competitive athletic program, and a fun/safe place to meet people and excel. My goals are to obtain a four year, bachelors degree and within the first two years determine my area of study concentration, I am leaning towards business management and marketing. I have been told by my coaches and teachers that I have natural leadership abilities and business seems be a track that fits me, but I want to explore other areas to be sure.
From a team perspective, I pride myself on being a supportive teammate and a student of the game. Games are often lost on a single play and preparation and anticipation are aspects that I take seriously. In addition, I work hard in the classroom and on the field. I use a strength and conditioning coach in the offseason and I see my pitching coach (Dave Leffew) and hitting instructor (Gary Saunders) weekly to continue to refine my game. My coaches also stress the mental aspects of the game (working the pitch count / hitter set up) as much as the physical which has helped me rise up when the team needs me most. I have played softball since age 7.
I am a fierce competitor on the field and I truly enjoy winning, but I have learned more from the seasons when I was on a developing team vs. our ASA/NSA nationally competitive teams. I consider myself a good student that actively participates in class and in team projects. I budget my day carefully so I can allocate time to each area: studies, softball and taking care of my horse - Myka. I am also a huge family person as I enjoy doing things with my parents and sister.
What makes me different? Honesty, integrity, drive, and ambition to succeed. I am looking to dedicate myself to a school and an athletic program that respects and values those attributes and provides me a strong academic foundation to succeed in a career after college.
Yours in fast-pitch,
Dana Weidinger, 2016, RHP, 1B, 3B
