My Name is Dakota Joi Inniss and I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I am a left hand 5’4 point guard. I am a rising Junior at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School, located in the North West Quadrant of The District of Columbia. I am excited to mention that I will be graduating from Wilson Senior High School in 2022. I enjoy participating in many extracurricular activities after school; for instance, the Student Government, Yearbook Club, Hospitality Club and Community Service. I played for Team Takeover, Team Sol, Glenarden Disciples, Vital Force and Metroball. I was on my Elementary School starting team. I played basketball and started in Junior High School and now I am the starting Point Guard on my Woodrow Wilson Varsity Senior School Team: The Wilson Lady Tigers. I have played Rec Ball (Department of Parks and Recreation) every fall, winter, spring and summer. I currently play for Team Durants 10th grade girls travel team. I enjoy school and work very hard to represent myself, my family, my coaches, my teammates, my teachers and my school both in school and in the community where I am a camp counselor at a sports camp during the summer..
My athletic weaknesses I am constantly improving with humility, practice and hard work. My athletic strengths are going to the basket and creating contact to get to the free throw line. I am also good at distributing the ball to all my teammates and playing lock down defense. I am a team player and motivator and practice good
sportsmanship. As a sophomore I averaged 7 points, 5 assists and 1 rebonded frequently. My coaches continue to tell me that they can and see that I am hardworking and very passionate about the game of basketball. I am learning to remain focused on my weaknesses and learning everyday to become a coachable player. As far as my academic career, I have been blessed to maintain a 3 point GPA and higher throughout elementary school up until high school. I am constantly trying to bring up my grades and figure out how to master my ELA skills, test skills and master my other core classes with understanding and passing grades. I actually love school. I am super excited about entering my Junior year of high school. The idea of being promoted is bittersweet. Sweet because I am going to the 11th grade, bitter because this is an uncertain and scary time, due to the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic that continues to plague the planet. Bitter because I may not be able to suit up for spring and summer tournaments with my team, yet, sweet, because I still have the opportunity to study and bring up my grades during remote learning. I am still remaining focused and positive. I use the shelter in place protocol to complete my homework packets and interact with my teachers and coaches remotely. I also take walks with my mom, dribble the ball and run outside a few times a week. This too shall Pass is my new motto. During this time I have been researching many athletic programs, watching previous basketball college games and claiming/speaking life into my future. I am very interested in your Athletic Program. As I continue to research your university/college I believe that I can contribute my energy to the team Playmaking and locking down OUR defense when I am able to join the team no matter if I start or wait my turn. Not only do I believe that your athletic and academic program/department would benefit me and my scholarly training and upbringing while in college. I also am very confident that your Business Management program would be a wonderful fit for me. I am 95 % sure that I would like to pursue and major in Sports Management. Being apart of your athletic department, being a student within your University and learning to become a whole student, while working towards my shortterm and longterm goals will not only make me a better athlete; I hope my four years in school will make me a well-rounded Strong, Educated, Spirit-filled, Self Sufficient, Determined, Humble and Well Versed Woman. Thank you so very much for the opportunity to reach out to you and share a little of who and what I am and represent. Be safe and blessed during this crazy time in US History.
Thank You,
Dakota’Joi Marie Inniss
