Personal Statement

Hello, My name is Alexa Leonor. I have played basketball since I was in elementary school. Later on it became more than a game to me.  I began taking basketball seriously in the 6th grade. I soon learned that to achieve one’s goals it takes more than just a couple days in the gym. It takes, hard work, discipline, resilience, and a great mindset. I started playing AAU in the 6th grade and have experienced different styles of coaching and game play. Because of this I have matured to be a very coachable player, with a well understanding of the game. I have a very good level of basketball iq, make quick decisions on the court, adjust, stay composed while under pressure, work very hard, am a great teammate, and keep trying to win till the end. I am also very strong mentally and have great ambition. I’ll tell you more about how I came to have that now.

During the beginning of my freshman year of high school I was a mess. Grades were slipping, I wasn’t getting much better at basketball, and My faith wasn’t strong. I was feeling pretty lost. I found myself with D’s and F’s in all of my classes half way through the semester. Due to some external factors in my life I was in a “fog”. My parents sat me down and we made a plan to get my grades up. I didn’t know how I was going to fix the grades or where to start, and i had no faith in myself, but the D’s and F’s did turn into mostly A’s and a couple B’s by the end of the semester. Day by day I slowly but surely finished an assignment and then another. I literally tried to make the most of every second of the day to get caught up and finish with good grades. I sat at my desk grinding for about a month and a half. I also learned healthy habits, and my faith in God grew. I know that finishing with good grades up would’ve not been possible if it wasn’t for God and him leading me to read my bible every morning. That was the first major adversity that i learned the skill of overcoming adversity and created my mental toughness.

With me on your team, you will never have to worry about me not working hard or hustling. Im a great shooter, ball handler, defensive player, offensive player, shooting guard, and point guard. Most of all my mindset and mental toughness is something you definitely want to have on your team. Im a leader and it only takes one person to change an environment. I lead by example but also can command people on the court, by being vocal. If you give me the chance to play for you team, you wont be disappointed.
