My name is Niamh Kelly and I am a senior at Shaker High School. I started playing basketball in second grade and instantly grew a passion for the sport. I love to play and consider myself to be a fast learner and very coachable. I listen to corrections and learn from my mistakes. Basketball changed my life for the better because it gave me something to focus on and allowed me to set goals to accomplish. It has also given me a sense of pride and an understanding of the importance of setting goals. This has helped me become a better person because it helped me to learn that I have to work for what I want and that nothing will just be handed to me. I believe that I am a good candidate for a college team because I always strive to do my best and I never do anything at half effort. I am also not a selfish player and I play well with teammates. I believe that I am different from other players because I am continuously focused on the end goal and don't succumb to peer pressure. I am a team player who is consistently looking to encourage and motivate. I also have a supportive family as well as good grades. I stayed on the High Honor Roll throughout middle school and was the Salutatorian of my eighth-grade class. I have continued to grow throughout high school and enjoy learning. My hopes for college are to work hard and come out of it with a successful basketball career and to earn a biology degree which would lead to my career path as an occupational therapist. I also want to go as far with basketball as I possibly can and can’t wait to see where that is.
