Personal Statement
I have played in over 400 basketball games, including 8 AAU seasons and the first varsity season at our brand new 6A high school, and I have enjoyed every minute. I was an All-District selection at SG for 2014-15 and named Defensive MVP. I currently hold the school records for 3pt% in a season, Steals in a season, FG% in a game, FT% in a game, and 3 pt% in a game. Over the years I’ve had many great memories, but my best was hitting 2 clutch free throws in the last 30 seconds of the semi-finals to send my team to our first ever National Championship game.
I’m a well-rounded and versatile player. I play 3 different positions, score in many different ways, have a quick shot release, handle the ball under pressure, and take pride in outrebounding bigger girls. But, I’m most proud of my defense. My coach usually has me guard the biggest threat and often calls me “the toughest kid on the team.” I can guard multiple positions. My strength allows me to guard bigger girls in the post, and my quickness, hands, and knowledge of angles makes me a good perimeter defender as well.
My style is not flashy, but reliable and consistent. My coaches always have me in when the game is on the line. I seem to play my best when my team needs it most. I keep a level head under pressure, which is why my coaches trust me.
I’ve always been a team player. I’m unselfish on and off the court. I enjoy bringing the team together, from the first to the last player on the bench. I lead by example, by practicing extremely hard and showing toughness and heart in the games. I always give 100%, and sometimes even more after a mistake. My coaches call me “coachable,” teammates call me “enforcer,” and parents call me “warrior.”
I work hard to maintain my grades while balancing other activities. I’m part of my school’s Falcon News Flash, where I’m on camera providing the weekly announcements and interviewing classmates. I enjoy trying new things; I tried shot put for the first time last year and took 3rd place in District Championships, set a new varsity school record, and was the first athlete in school history to qualify for Area Championships. I also entered a Powerlifting meet when I was 14 and broke 3 Texas and 1 American record in my first try. I still work out hard – I bench 300 lbs, box squat over 500 lbs, and curl 165 lbs.
I love this game, and I’m simply not ready to deflate my ball and hang up my shoes yet. I still have a lot left to give and want to find a college to keep playing another 4 years. I can’t wait to see where the next chapter in my basketball career takes me!
