Personal Statement
I grew up and reside in Chelmsford, MA. I recently graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA in 2016. I chose to attend LA because it was a prep school that felt like home. I decided that it would be a good fit for me because the atmosphere of the school was a close-knit community just like I had always anticipated for high school.
In high school, I played three varsity sports, was involved in three clubs, babysat on the weekends, and volunteered my time to many different associations while balancing my schoolwork and working at a diner. My work ethic was to always strive to achieve and maintain the best possible GPA. I am a leader in the classroom and a student who seeks one-on-one help with my teachers when needed.
My favorite subjects are math and English. I love hands-on activities because it’s easier for me to grasp the concept of something if I can relate to it realistically. One thing a college should know about me is that I enjoy learning. This is important because it just proves that I will work hard to try to understand all concepts of the material being taught. To actually enjoy learning is important because it also shows that I am dedicated to all the work I put out. The value of an education is the most important thing to me. As a student-athlete I am a leader, hardworking, well rounded, and outgoing.
Outside of the classroom, I was an active member of three clubs; Spartan Nation, the Community Service Club and the year book committee. I also played on the varsity field hockey, lacrosse and hockey teams at Lawrence. Giving back to the community is important to me. Recently, I was a volunteer for iCan Shine, a five day long camp that taught kids and adults with special needs how to ride a bike (Junior and Senior year).
Hockey has always been a big part of my life. Hockey has taught me how to be a passionate teammate and leader. Playing with the boys until 8th grade has helped to form me into an aggressive player on the ice. Playing in the independent school league, I have valued the fast paced competition the past four years. Junior year I received an honorable mention by the Independent School League. Due to an injury that held me up from playing hockey during my senior year, I will be playing with the East Coast Wizards Juniors Organization for the upcoming season of 2017.
Through this hard work I plan to attend the best college for myself, and I hope to also use athletics to help me achieve this goal. I would bring to your school a well rounded person with a competitive attitude in and outside the classroom.
