Personal Statement
Dear College Coaches,
My name is Gabrielle Purpura but most people refer to me as Gabby. I am currently 16 years old and attending Romeo High School as a junior. My goal and objective in school is to get my bachelors degree in the sciences and ultimately become a veterinarian. My hope is that I can take my passion of playing hockey to the next level and play while I attend college.
What makes me an excellent candidate for a college team is that I love being around new people, I love being a part of a team and being able to call my teammates my sisters. When I began playing hockey, I played as a goalie. I was in net for about two years before realizing that I truly wanted to be a defensemen. So if ever my coaches need me to hop in net for an emergency, I’m in! I would do anything to help my team. When I am on the ice I give 100% effort every time. I love being the motivator to my teammates when they think they can't do it. I always say "can't isn't in your vocabulary so do it". Making mistakes to me is, yes very frustrating, but I love learning from them and becoming even better. I am a very self-disciplined person, when I want something I put my mind to it until I achieve it. If a coach tells me I need to work on something I take it very seriously and make sure I put the work in to change it as soon as possible. Overall, if I had to describe myself I would say that I am a very good natured, no drama type of girl. I have a lot of energy on and off the ice. I love cracking jokes and keeping my teammates upbeat. But overall I love being part of the team and learning about the game of hockey.
In school I am a very hard worker. School doesn't come easy to me, but I make sure that, just like playing hockey, I give all that I have to give. I study long and hard, stay very organized and make sure I am up to date on everything.
Religion is also an important part of my life. Sundays I go to church. When I was younger, I was an alter girl. Some other things I have participated in to give back to the community is something called “Meals on Wheels”. This is a program where my dad and I would bring meals to people who were homebound and could not prepare food for themselves. Also through my church, my family and myself would help with food service for the homeless.
Another very important part of my life is fitness. I belong to a gym and workout six days a week doing weight lifting and cardio. I eat a strict diet (other than on the holidays). I am a very passionate person when it comes to being healthy, because it just makes life that much more enjoyable when you have your health and feel physically fit. It also helps my stamina on the ice. When I am working out and sweating hard the only thing I think about is playing hockey at the next level! I absolutely love hockey!
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule and reading this I hope you liked what you read.
Sincerely,
Gabby
