Personal Statement

When I think of college, I can’t imagine it without hockey. The sport has been a huge part of my life from when I first learned to skate.

I first touched the ice not as a hockey player, but as a figure skater. It was the most frustrating experience of my life. I was about to leave the ice rink behind me when my brother, just a mite, started playing hockey. I instantly thought, “Hey, that looks really fun.” So thanks to my brother, I started playing hockey.

From then on, I have played on boys' teams and girls’ teams. I’ve learned the joys of having my hard work pay off and I have enjoyed competing in every single game. I love everything about the sport. I love scoring goals, but who doesn’t? I love blocking shots and seeing the battle scars I receive. I love killing penalties because I get to use my defensive skills in a different way. I love knowing I’m one of the fastest people on the ice and that no one can stop me.

However, hockey extends beyond just the game. I couldn’t imagine life without my teammates. With almost sixty games a season (most of them away), I spend most of my weekends and weekdays with my team. My life would be lacking if I didn’t have all of the long bus rides, dance parties in the locker room, or the interesting chats in hotel rooms. My team is pretty much my entire social life and I like it that way.

Not to mention, my real family comes together whenever we can to play street hockey. It is during these games that I’m actually able to play on the same team as my little brother and my father.

Whenever I think of college, I can’t imagine it without the sport I’ve come to know and love. My greatest dream is to move on to the next level. I want to bring my speed, my work ethic, my competitive drive, and my other assets to a new team. I want to continue taking bus trips to compete with other teams. I want to spend my time in a rink when I’m not in a dorm room, taking classes, or studying.

After college, I’ve always dreamed of having a family and of having a successful career. Even when I'm busy with a career and a family, I somehow want to stay in touch with my athletic side. Whether I can coach or have one of my own children play the sport.

I realize that my goals and dreams will change after college so I want to make the most of the four years I’ll have to compete and be the best I can be.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
