Personal Statement
My name is Ilana Friedman and I am a 2009 graduate from Middleton, Wisconsin. I have been playing hockey since I was in 2nd grade. In the arena of academics, my goals are lofty. I attend a President's Blue Ribbon high school, thus my competition in the classroom is great as I have pushed myself in Honors and AP courses. I integrate the ethics I learn in hockey to my studies and to everyday life. I strive to be the best individual by helping my peers with their problems, but I never stray by peer temptations. I am known to be trustworthy and responsible amongst my friends and their parents. In the arena of hockey, my perseverance is one of my most recognizable traits and I work long hours off and on the ice to achieve hockey success. I am strong and my fundamentals as a goalie are well-skilled and sharpened by years of working with a private goalie coach. I pride myself on my angle control and my rebound control. I believe my dedication to hockey is a preparation to life. I've learned time management between school, hockey, and social life; I've learned to prioritize, often giving up one venture for another. At one point in my life (5th grade), I experienced a personal family tragedy. My hockey kept me focused, grounded, and on track until the incident passed. The lessons I've learned from home have provided me with a loving, nurturing base and the lessons I've learned from hockey have strengthened my determination for cohesive teamwork in life.
