Personal Statement
There are three attributes I would use to describe myself... determined, team player, and athletic. Each of these characteristics help shape me into the lacrosse player I am today and the player I strive to be in the future. Although I haven’t played for very long I have made great progress.
I started playing lacrosse in high school. My brother played and I would sometimes throw with him, but had never considered playing until my freshman year. I was nervous because I had never played before, but after dedicating almost 10 years to figure skating then successfully picking up volleyball, basketball, and track, I was confident I could do the same with lacrosse. It would just take dedication and determination.
I began practicing with my brother in the backyard and cradling around the house. When tryouts came, I earned a place on the JV as a midfielder. After just a few games I earned a starting position, and by the end of the season was brought up to play in the varsity playoffs. In our second round our game, I received significant playing time playing man-to-man defense on the opponents leading scorer, shutting her down completely.
I have come a long way in one year. I workout everyday before school and attend stick skill sessions in the off-season. For me, failure is never an option. I strive to be the best I can possibly be at everything I do.
Team player is not only a characteristic I have on the field, but off as well. No matter where I am, in the play or on the sidelines I am cheering on my teammates, I am a leader. I will play anywhere the coaches need me, I am not afraid of trying new things. Off the field, I am student council class Vice president and a member of the Ambassador Club for my school. I use all of my God given talents for the first small step in the right direction, but I know that putting in the extra work is how you get better. This year I earned a position as a starting varsity midfielder, played with the 2019/2020 Lakeshore Lacrosse National Premier team during the summer and earned a spot with the Team One Wildcats 2019 in September. I look forward to continuing to improve and demonstrating that I have what it takes to play at the college level.
