Hi, I am Emily (Em) Amortegui; a 2025 starting varsity goalie for Moravian Academy. I have been playing lacrosse for 5 years. I started playing lacrosse because my friends told me I would enjoy it and when I decided to become a goalie I quickly fell in love with the sport. Being in goal allows me to see the whole field and both teams, which presents the opportunity to use my communication skills to talk to my team about plays, pros and cons of our dynamic against a certain team, and to provide on and off the field support. When I reached high school in 2021, I knew that the game changes and presents more of a challenge and one thing I am always ready for is a new challenge. I can take on anything you bring my way, whether it’s on the field or off. When I was born, I was and still am missing certain bones, fingers, and connective tissue in my right hand. Some may call that a disability or a disadvantage but that is what sets me apart from others. I work hard everyday to adapt to my environment. I don’t let anything hold me back, especially my hand, because I can do anything anyone else can do. When it comes to being in goal with my hand, it is sometimes harder to block on my right side, but over the years I have practiced to make it as if I am not missing anything. When it comes to my future besides lacrosse, I want to study biology or pre med, then go to med school and eventually become either an Anatomic Pathologist or an Aerospace Medical Specialist. In terms of lacrosse, I want to continue playing out of high school, I want to keep displaying my skills, support, strength, communication, and to be a part of a higher level team. I am grateful for every chance I have to get in the goal and be a part of a team.
