Hello, my name is Aubree Mellana. I am 16 years old, and I live in Lakewood, California, where I attend Saint Joseph High School. From a young age, I fell in love with the game of soccer. After a couple of years of AYSO, I decided I wanted a future with the game I love so much. Throughout my soccer journey, my parents have been supportive of me and my goals. They have taught me to be mentally tough, understand that success comes from hard work, and never give up. Learning to be mentally tough has helped me not only to overcome challenges in soccer but in life. My parents have also instilled in me the importance of family, friends, and fun. Yes, I love to play soccer and see myself playing at the collegiate level after I graduate high school, but I also love spending time with my family. Some of my favorite things to do with my family are to go camping, go to the river, ride quads, and attend country concerts. Although these trips are fun, there is always hard work to be done, whether it is setting up the trailer, launching or tying up the boat, changing the tires on the quads, or learning how to be safe while out and about. I have always been willing to learn, and this has also been incorporated into the way I play soccer.
After playing AYSO soccer for a couple of years, I wanted to play at a more competitive level. I played one season with Beach FC but found my real home with a 2006 FC Premier team being coached by Dave Sabet. I was a year younger than the majority of my teammates, so I knew I was going to have to work harder than everyone else to earn my place on the team, and I did just that. I was a sub the first season but quickly worked my way up to becoming a starter and a team captain. To date, I am still with FC Premier, but I have since joined my 2007 age group and was invited to play on FC Premier’s first higher-level E64 team. Since joining this team, I have been a starter and a leader from day one and play almost every minute of every game. After high school, I plan to play college soccer, major in communications, and pursue my master’s degree.
