Hello, my name is Avery Ainsworth, and I am currently a Sophomore at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School. I have been playing soccer since I was four years old, and it has always been a significant part of my life. Before starting high school, I was a three sport athlete. I played club basketball for three years and I also played tennis for eight years. Although I love basketball and tennis, my passion is soccer. I decided to focus on soccer in high school, so I could have the opportunity to play soccer at an even higher level than club and varsity. I have been on the varsity team since I was a freshman and earned a starting spot on the lineup in my freshman year during CIF. I scored the game winning goal in the Quarterfinals to push our team to the Semifinals of CIF, where I got the opportunity to be a starter.
Outside of school soccer I have played on multiple club teams. At first, I started off on an AYSO team when I was four and then joined a club team, Newport Mesa, where we played in flight one. I played for Newport Mesa for three years, from eight to eleven years old. I then played for the Pateadores Laguna Beach for two years before joining my current club team Slammers FC HB Køge.
Additionally, I am a very versatile player on the field. The first position I ever played was forward for my AYSO team and for the beginning of my club years. I then became a center back for multiple years and used my speed to stop any forward who tried to get past me. I then played more as an outside back because that allowed me to be able to participate more offensively. Most recently, I have been playing outside-mid/winger and center forward. The only positions I have not spent much time playing are the 6 and the 8. My strengths as a player are my speed, agility, and field vision. I know when one of my teammates has the opportunity to make a play, and I am able to distribute the ball to them effectively. I also know when I should dribble through opponents and create an opportunity for myself. My coaches have always told me how coachable and willing to learn I am. I have always been a supportive and humble teammate, and on the new club teams I have joined, I have earned the respect of my teammates and coaching staff through playing well and giving it my all in practice and at the games.
Soccer has always been a big part of my life. Playing Collegiate Soccer would allow me to continue my goal of becoming the best player possible and grow as an individual. I also want to go to an academically strong school where I can pursue my interests in Computer Science and Environmental Engineering.
