Personal Statement
I am a motivated individual on and off the field. This motivation fuels my passions for the three main aspects of my life: athletics, academics, and community (extracurricular). I played soccer as a defender until halfway through my sophomore season, when my team was in need of a goalie. Ever since then, I have fallen in love with the position. I would describe my personal style of play as aggressive, but if I notice that the opponents have a strong foot or outside shot, I will stay closer to my line. I have worked extensively on mastering the fundamentals in this season and a half and have now graduated to higher difficulty saves. I am not afraid to put my body on the line and do not shy away from hard work. I am very coachable and try to absorb as much advice and coaching as I possibly can. The efforts I made in the first half season that I was a keeper acquired All- League (1st team) Fairchester Athletics Association recognition ad the coaches award, and my second season ended in an invitation to play in the Western New-England All-Star game as well as a second consecutive FAA All-League recognition. Just think what I could do with four years of collegiate soccer and coaching! In terms of my contributions to my team, I have been on Varsity since freshman year and was voted Captain this year as junior. I cannot wait to see what new challenges college soccer will bring and am excited to improve and learn even more as I compete at the next level.
I do not play club soccer because I have been committed to two other varsity sports: basketball and lacrosse. Clearly, I love sports in general, no matter what they are, but out of the three, I spend my summers and free time working on my goalkeeping for soccer.
Academically, I have maintained a GPA at a High Honors (3.5-3.99) or Scholarly(4.0+) level throughout all of my years in high school and I am all honors or AP level classes this year (junior year). I have also chosen to work toward what my school calls a Global Studies Distinction in which you take specific classes and complete certain tasks on top of your core curriculum.
In terms of my school community, I am incredibly involved in clubs and music. I have taken choir for three years and was in the musical last year. I am the leader of the Student Activities Club, the Global Students Club, and the Vice- President of the Upper School Student Council. I am also a member of the Rwanda Service club, the Peer Review Board, and the Tour Guides/ Ambassadors Club.
Leadership is incredibly important to me and affects my everyday life. I have been the leader of clubs since I was a sophomore and am a two-sport Varsity captain as a junior. Leadership is vital as a goalie because I am not afraid to speak to my teammates and be vocal.
I hope to bring my interests to college in the classroom, community, and on the field. I cannot wait to compete at a collegiate level and learn from my coaches and teammates. I will work hard to refine my skills and become the best keeper that I can be.
