Personal Statement
I have dedicated my life to the game of soccer and have always pushed myself to be the best player I can be. Soccer has taught me many different lessons. At the age of five I started soccer at a recreational level and I played there until I was about eight years old. At that point my coach had recommended that I try travel since my play was much better than everyone else. So I tried out for the Hockessin Soccer Club's U9 travel team. I made it on that team and have continued to play at that level and have continued to make it on the "A" team each year. After I joined the travel team I realized that soccer was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. In fact, when I was asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I would say " a professional soccer player." Ever since I have done everything to make sure that soccer is a huge part of my life. I have always shared a love and passion for the game. I can't remember a time that I haven't wanted to play, because soccer provides me with a feeling of exhilaration and belonging. It has always been the one thing I can focus on and always want to do. Over the years, my team has been very successful. For example, in the past four years we have won State Cup in Delaware and gone to Region I Championships in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.
I have always been a defensive player. I am flexible with where I can play in the back. When playing as a center back I am able to win balls out of the air, give good distribution, talk to my teammates, mark players well, and be able to track down players. When I play as an outside back I am able to make offensive runs, get into the box, take shots on goal, stall players from getting a break away, stop players from getting a cross into the box, able to communicate well, mark players, and able to track down players on the wing. I'm one of the designated free kickers on our team, whether it be for free kicks, penalty kicks, 6 kicks (goal kicks), and sometimes corner kicks (but they like me to be in the box).
My goals in life are to achieve my high school diploma, play soccer at a college or higher level, get my college degree, and become a physical therapist and/or athletic trainer. I want to help athletes work through injuries, achieve their goals, learn how not to get hurt, and to also teach them valuable life goals. I strive to be all of the above because of the fact that it is important to me to make a difference in peoples lives. I am currently an honor roll student with a 3.84 weighted GPA and will be pushing myself to make that even higher. I am currently taking honors Physics, Calculus, Spanish, Athletic training and AP Biology and Psychology. Overall I will continue to push myself and strive for the best I can do in all things.
