Personal Statement
When I was 8 years old, I was in ballet and my mom had signed me up for soccer because my brother played and I wanted to try it out. Being new to a sport was quite an obstacle to get over but my coach was patient with me and I was determined to master it. Throughout the years, many coaches saw my determination and taught me different techniques of the game most of which were based upon the FC Barcelona’s way of playing. I always would watch the U.S. Women’s National Team play and picked up on runs and passing techniques they consistently use and applied them to my style of playing.
My mom and I would always watch the all major league soccer teams play and I would tell her I want to be up there in the big leagues. She is one of the main people that made me the person I am today. She saw my self-motivation and pushed me to do better. She knew my interest grew as I got older and made goals for myself to play in the collegiate level and higher. She continues to help me to keep my academic goal of a 4.0 GPA in school and to continue to keep a high GPA in college because she wants me to fulfill my dreams.
Playing soccer helped me learn life. My sport made me realize the kind of person I am; Up for a challenge, quick on my toes, resilient, and a team player. Quoting Ronaldinho, “I learned life with a ball at my feet” and I did learn about life in all 8 years of playing. Seeing that, we have to set goals for ourselves to succeed and if we don’t challenge ourselves we’ll never grow in our abilities.
