Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Olivia Kalil. I am currently a Junior at Penn High School in northern Indiana, class of 2022. As you may know, Penn High School has won several State Championships in Indiana and continue to have great success each year. I initially played as a starter on the varsity team as a forward. It is a large team with 64 girls in all (both JV and Varsity). I was the highest scoring Freshman on the JV team in 2019 and added several assists to my teammates. Out of the 64 girls I was the third fastest overall and the second fastest sophomore after our timed event last year. We had finished the 2019 season as Regional Champions and played the eventual state champs in Semi-State, taking them to double overtime. I was the leading scorer for Penn last season as we enjoyed the success that comes from this program each year. This year I played as a defensive mid. I initially started the year out as a forward but, my coach felt it was needed to move me back into the midfield. This is the position I traditionally grew up playing during my club seasons. I play club soccer for Junior Irish in the MRL division, starting as the attacking midfielder/ forward for JI. In addition to high school and club soccer, I’ve been playing for Indiana ODP for seven years. I have attended region II ODP camp three times and remain on the region II pool. During the winter months I play on two indoor soccer leagues, and attend bi-monthly ODP events and trainings. We are fortunate enough in our community to have added a semi-pro soccer team. The South Bend Lions have given me the opportunity to compete for them as well. This is my first year joining this team.
I am a very good student and take my education seriously. I currently have a 3.6GPA and am taking honors classes and AP classes to better prepare me for college academics. My interest are in the field of Pre-Med with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist in the future. I come from a family of service oriented professionals with my mother as a elementary school teacher and my father as a firefighter / paramedic. I believe in being the best I can be on the field and off the field. I have recently taken a class and obtained my Top Soccer Buddy certificate and looking forward to working with children from all walks of life in the world of the sport I love. Obtaining my academic goals are as important to me as my athletic goals. Playing competitively at the collegiate level while obtaining a quality education is most important to me. I have strong relationships to help me get there with my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and teachers. I have a deep desire to be the best I can be, and oftentimes I’m my own hardest critic.
I do have intentions to goto a college that will be the best match for me academically, however playing soccer at the next level in a competitive atmosphere would be something I deeply look forward to and aspire to do.
Thank you for your time,
Olivia Kalil
