I aspire to go to college. It's a simple aspiration in itself, but the story behind it says it all. My father was the first to go to college in his family. My paternal grandparents (my Abuelo and Abuela) were born and raised in Mexico. They came to America in the early 1970s to give their children a better opportunity at a better life than what they had. My father was born in Texas, but raised in Michigan. He grew up watching his parents wake up early in the mornings and going to the fields to provide for him and his 4 siblings. Growing up hearing that story, I knew I had to make something out of myself, just as my father knew he had to do big things. For him, it was going to college and starting a family to provide for and love. For me, it's to go to college, work hard for a good career, and someday start a family. I have seen hard work and sweat since I was born, my life and my opportunities are BUILT on hard work and sacrifices. I know what it is to work hard and not take your opportunities for granted because I watched my father do just that every day, just as he watched his parents do the same. My mother grew up in a well off household, but her mother struggled with addiction when my mother was growing up. But despite this, my mother continues to be a loving woman who wears her heart on her sleeve and puts her all into everything. Because of my parents, my family, and those before me, I have learned what it is to work hard and be strong, but also how to love and show compassion to others. I am a strong leader, a quick thinker, open-minded, and compassionate. I've been playing soccer since I was 7, I understand the game, I have great field awareness, and I'm captain material. I'll work my butt off for whatever I have my mind set on. Whether that's in the classroom, on the field, or just life in general. I also find participation and attendance one of the most important parts of playing a sport, especially at the college level. I am a great distributor of the ball, I have the vision and play-making ability of a Center Midfielder, I'm coach-able, flexible, and I have skill and touch.
