Personal Statement
I have loved the game of soccer since I started in kindergarten. I have always felt that being on the field is the exact place that I was meant to be. I love being part of a team sport and love challenging myself to new things on the field. I have been fortunate enough to be on an extremely competitive club team since 5th grade with most of the girls sharing the same vision that I have--to play college soccer.
I have faced some obstacles along the way. One of the most challenging was watching some of my club teammates make varsity starting position with me still being the first substitute for one of the seniors on the team. I was determined that I should also have a starting position, but when it finally happened, I realized that being a young person on a team of seniors that thought they should have my spot was hard. I began to question my ability, but once I realized that I needed to be a team player and not look at myself as a freshman, our team began winning and we took a heartbreaking third place in the state tournament that year. I came back more confident in my abilities to help my team and as a sophomore and the highlight of my soccer career so far is winning the state championship against the defending state champions this past year.
My determination and willingness to challenge myself to improve is why I would make an excellent candidate to be a student athlete in college and live my dream.
