Mary Grace de Haro (Gracie) Graduating Class of 2026
Soccer has always been an aspect of our family. My first ball touches were when I was three and my parents signed me up for a Lil’Kickers program. I didn’t play soccer on a regular basis until I joined an organized rec league when I was nine. I have played other sports, tennis, dance, and swimming (which I still do in the summers), but soccer was what I always gravitated to. It may have been due to the friendships I made through the various teams I played on. At home, we also played quite a bit of “mini” soccer in our basement. This was always fun and helped me with my ball-handling skills.
In the last year, I have decided that I would like to pursue the opportunity to play soccer in college. It may be due to my brother recently committing to play D1 ice hockey for the University of New Hampshire. Watching him go through his journey inspired me that playing at a college is possible for me as well.
I have progressed through the various levels from year to year. It's been a fun journey for sure. Many times, I had to make the decision to stay with my friends on a team or move up to the next level. I always elected to move up any chance I got. I did this to play with higher-skilled players and become better myself. I have a good first touch and my soccer IQ is high. I see the field well and play with my head up many times creating opportunities for my teammates. I have learned something from every coach that I have played for. I have always had good relationships with my coaches and I think this helped me get the opportunities I deserved. I think this also speaks to how coachable I am as a player. Currently, I am the only player on my team that plays the entire game. I appreciate this opportunity and I plan to make the most of it.
Academically I am enrolled in a STEM program. The STEM program I elected to pursue is Math and Engineering. It is tough but I am keeping my grades up and I have a high GPA when compared to most of my peers. My parents and brother have always said that the way to play a sport in college is through your grades, so I intend to maintain these.
High School soccer has been fun and where I believe I saw my biggest jump in confidence playing soccer. I played as a freshman for the varsity team. I played every minute of every game and was the leading scorer for the team.
I’m excited about what college will bring. I’m open to all college options but I do want to play for a competitive program for an institution that also meets my academic goals.
